Reboot Redux

So reboot was less than a month ago, and I’ve already grown tired of this site’s design. As such, I am currently working on yet another redesign for this site, along with a complete overhaul of the software akin to what Jeff Croft launched for Reboot. I have been playing around with the Django framework for quite some time now, and the more that I work with it, the more enamored I am with it.

I’ve tried working with Rails, and .NET, but they never really had the “stickiness” for me that Django seems to have. For whatever reason, I just “get” Django. Aside from just the standard blog functions, I’m also hoping to enhance the features of this site. I am hoping that with the change in software, I will be able to get myself to write more often, and with at least some sort of regularity.

Aside from that, the design will be a huge departure from what I have been using since the site’s inception. When I first started this site, I was barely becoming aware of the power that CSS and semantic markup had. As such, the design was a simplistic amalgamation of techniques that I had learned up to that point… which weren’t many. Since that time, while the markup and the visual style of the site have changed, sometimes for the better, sometimes not, it has ultimately always been a simplistic two column blog. There has never been much cause for me to venture out of that design pattern, since it is proven to work for the format, but I’m now wishing to escape the boundries of “blog” and allow my creativity to explore more experimental designs, while still keeping a good eye afixed on usability.

Hopefully, over the next couple of days, I will have several designs that I will be posting up for people to take a look at, and hopefully give me their feedback on, and help me pick which design to implement for the site.

About Me

I am an Application Developer for Fox Interactive Media. I am currently in the Stations group, working on the MyFox family of sites (MyFox LA). On top of working for FIM, I also design and develop websites for myself and on as a freelance contractor.

I have been working in the industry professionally for the past four years, and have worked with great companies, and even greater people. Some of the companies that I've had the pleasure to work for include Schematic, Iventa, 101communications (now 1105media), and MySpace.
