Refresh LA 2.0?

I’ve been seriously thinking about trying to get Refresh LA started again, but I’m a little apprehensive considering the utter failure that it was the last time. So I’m curious, who would be interested in giving it another try? Also, if you’re interested in it, would you be willing to help organize it, because I suck at organizing things, though I’m getting better at it.

Things that I see standing in my way of getting it started:

  1. Need to register a new domain. RefreshLA.org is lost, but it appears I could register the .net extension of the same domain.
  2. Need a place to hold the meetings. Ideally this venue should be fairly centrally located for the LA and OC areas.
  3. Need help in organizing topics, getting potential speakers, and just getting the overall community to even be aware of the event, which I feel was the problem the last time that I tried it. There were a whole six of us that were regulars, and then other people drifted in and out fairly regularly.

So there you have it. What stands in the way of Refreshing LA a second time. Let me know in the comments if you’re interested, and/or willing to help.

You might try gaining some support at the Geek Dinners or Bar Camp crowd in LA. Lots of the community gathers there and pitching your idea to those peple might be the best forum.

About Me

I am an Application Developer for Fox Interactive Media. I am currently in the Stations group, working on the MyFox family of sites (MyFox LA). On top of working for FIM, I also design and develop websites for myself and on as a freelance contractor.

I have been working in the industry professionally for the past four years, and have worked with great companies, and even greater people. Some of the companies that I've had the pleasure to work for include Schematic, Iventa, 101communications (now 1105media), and MySpace.
